Meet Adam
He tripled his turnover...in just 18 months!
Adam was our ‘new member of the year’ at the 2020 Hive Practice Awards and continues to impress us with his relentless commitment to improvement.
Adam embodies what can be achieved when you commit to working hard on your business, learning new skills and embracing change.
WARNING!
His results are not typical but they do go to show what can be achieved when you follow our ‘best practice system’ and execute like a superhero!
Who: Adam Smith
What: Adam Smith Podiatry & Healthcare
Where: Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland
When: Since 2009 as home visit service and our clinic opened 2018
Why: I was born with a clubfoot and became interested in mechanics after my mum arranged a day with the Podiatrist at the health centre for me to observe.
The Problem:
We were exhausted. Johanna and I spent hours after work doing more work, we were fitting patients in at times that didn’t suit us and at the same time we were expanding. We needed help and didn’t know where to start!
The Solution:
We implemented a blueprint of processes and systems to our clinic. I never knew what these stats and metrics meant, how to calculate them, or why they mattered. But now it’s a weekly task and I dedicate effort to knowing the numbers and how to improve them. It is the first time I feel like I run the business and it doesn’t run me.
The Outcome:
When we joined we were seeing roughly 300 appointments a month. Since November we have an average of over 600 appointments per month and will pass 700 for March 2021.
Monthly turnover has trebled, profit is between 20-30% of turnover depending on the month.
Rebooking improved from roughly 60% to nearly 90%.
Our clients are rating us at 98% out of 100% in the past 3 months score checks.
We have x 6 Podiatrists and have a very harmonious workplace.
More importantly, I’m not sitting doing work until midnight, panicking about tasks I haven’t done and the clinic can run without me being there.
I feel more relaxed and organised which has let me do some courses and try things I always felt I never had the time to do.
The Future:
Our likely next step will be expansion. We are bursting at the seams with 4 rooms so either adding a room to our current building or moving to somewhere larger will be the 12-month step.
In 3 years we are aiming to have another site, likely a small 2-3 chair clinic within Edinburgh or Midlothian with a 3rd site in coming years.
Outside the Practice:
Adam is an avid cricket fan, a Sunderland fan and enjoys baseball and ice hockey. He enjoys Sci-Fi and adventure TV/films along with comic books
And as soon as he can, Adam plans on visiting the US and Canada so he can get his baseball fix, preferably the Toronto Blue Jays or a trip to Fenway Park to see Boston Red Sox.
So there we have it, with no two days the same at the clinic, Adam can now focus on building the business providing more time for himself and to have some fun, even if this involves Sunderland AFC ; )
Massive congratulations Adam for being on top of your game!
Keep being awesome.
Thanks,
Katie & The HIVE Team
