Who: Kat Butcher
What: South Burnett Podiatry
Where: Kingaroy, Queensland, Australia
When: Purchased the Clinic on 28th June 2018
Why: My dream was to have my own clinic all in one location with a shoe shop and I wanted to help keep people stay moving longer.
The Problem:
When I first took on the business, the biggest challenge was being able to manage all the business side of things whilst still treating my patients.
I didn’t have a war chest to fall back on. It was tough to find the balance and I found it all very overwhelming at the time.
I was working five days a week and leaving late every night.
The Solution:
I was very nervous, but at the same time excited to have my own clinic and business. It was my first time of tackling my financials; these showed me the areas I needed to focus on.
I was able to identify what I was doing well with and the ones that needed improving.
I became much calmer about the processes ahead once I finally had a better understanding of my numbers.
The Outcome:
After getting a grip with my numbers, I made some changes to my marketing plans. I had the time to really look at my promotions and with this focus I saw my patient numbers increase.
We had 65 x new patients last month and we have seen our utilisation rate increase to 95%.
Mastering my marketing has really helped drive this recent growth.
I have now been able to reduce my time on the tools to three days per week.
I work from home every Monday and sometimes take the day off. It’s all a work in progress, but I’m happier and healthier in myself and loving life more than ever.
The Future:
We are currently in the process of expanding the business and building more clinic rooms and additional shoe space.
It’s a very exciting time ahead – there is the opportunity to invite other allied health into our clinic space too.
Outside the Practice:
I have been a Rotarian for the past six years and really enjoy working in the community and doing good in the world.
We recently raised over $30,000 to help the youth suicide prevention in the South Burnett.
But with all the work aside, I enjoy time with family and friends, a good glass of bubbles and relaxing with good company.
Kat is a great example of how being brave and facing your numbers can reap the rewards in the long-term for your practice.
Doing something outside of your comfort zone could be the best thing you ever did – are you brave enough?…
….your success and happiness are riding on it.
